Chinese/Lunar New Year Hairclips

This year I decided I needed something red for Chinese New Year, and I haven't made something for myself for a while. I don't normally wear red, it's hard to find a shade that's flattering on me . But I'll do it for this celebration, just once a year.

I've been making clips in this style for some time but this colour combination is special.

Red and gold are important colours in our culture and are often used for celebrations. Even traditional Chinese wedding dresses are red (white is used for funerals and mourning).
This is because red is the colour of blood and so it represents life.
Gold represents prosperity, as it's literally used for jewellery and money.

I've mentioned it to some friends before but I've never elaborated on it much -  a lot of my designs are Chinese influenced. I don't often directly use imagery from traditional Chinese art so it's a bit more subtle. Usually it's just the influence of borders and shapes, and often themes that are common in our culture like the moon & stars, plants and water.
